Call from Dutch political party: input on participation in High Education Act

Dear students in participation,

It is code red for co-determination in higher education. Many students in participation are struggling to find successors, and at many educational institutions, the participation election turnout figures are very low. This is not surprising. In fact, we see that real participation of active students and teaching staff depends on the good will of administrators.
Despite the fact that many administrators take their fellow employees seriously, this is not the case everywhere. That is why we think it is time to improve the law.

Recently, we wrote an own-initiative note with proposals to strengthen co-determination. But of course, a note on co-determination cannot be done without input from co-determinists themselves. So, if you currently sit on the participation council of your educational institution, or have sat on one in the past, I would like to discuss with you our proposals that we will submit in the Lower House.

We cordially invite you to share input with us at:

Date: Friday 12 May
Time: 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Location: Lower House, entrance Prinses Irenepad 1 in The Hague

You will receive the concept note before that date so that you have time to go through it. You can register by emailing i.vooijen@tweedekamer.nl

The deadline for signing up is Monday 8 May at the latest. Registering in advance is necessary because we can then pass on your name to security. When registering, please also indicate which educational institution you are or have been in this council and what your position is or was.

Please note that a maximum of 30 people can participate in this afternoon. People who register when we have already received 30 applications can still receive the initiative paper for providing input.

Should you need additional support, for example from a (writing) interpreter, please let us know in good time so that we can organise this.

Kind regards,

Lisa Westerveld
